This is a 9mm Luger that used by the Finnish military during the Winter War period until the end of hostilities with the Soviet Union. Finland purchased 8000 or so Lugers from DWM in Germany in the 1920’s in 7.65 Parabellum. The Finns designated the pistol the M/23.
These pistols were used heavily during Finlands wars with the Soviets. Many of the original pistols were lost or destroyed. After the Winter War and continuing into the post war period, many of these worn out
Lugers were rebarreled with 9 mm barrels made at the Tikka factory. By 1951, the Finnish military only had 3724 of the original 8000 Lugers remaining.
This pistol has the 9mm Tikka barrel and the left hand grip has had the I. D. Disk removed. The serial number indicates that is one of the early Lugers imported into Finland in the 1920’s.
