Comment on the Finger Lakes College Pistol carry news

Firearm Locked in Private Vehicle

Why do qualified citizens get pistol permits? Most pistol permits are issued to people who will use the firearm to protect themselves or others from criminals committing a crime. The real "bad guys" don't care about legally owned guns, background checks, and gun free zones. In fact, the gun free zone renders safety to the crazed shooter's depraved indifference to innocent life.

Mr. Jesse Banke passed his background investigation and was issued a NYS pistol permit. Observing the intent of the  gun free zone rule, his firearm was locked in his private vehicle and  not carried on his person. Mr. Blake should have the right to self-defense going to and coming home from collage.

A firearm locked in a private vehicle is no danger to school faculty or students and unfortunately, no danger to a criminal intent on doing harm to anyone at FLCC.

BPB comment: I can not understand how we can be given a permit and then be so severely restricted in where we can carry our firearms.Which brings me to my biggest issue, why do we even have to have a permit system?
