HELD: The Second Amendment

Held:

1. The Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess a
firearm unconnected with service in a militia, and to use that arm for
traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home.

What else can I say! I'm so fricken elated after 30 plus years of arguing we have a decission!

Wegmans & the Missing magazines

Over the past week or so I've received calls and emails about firearm themed magazines being missing from the shelves of Wegmans stores. I checked a couple of stores myself and indeed all firearm themed mags were gone from the shelves.

I called Wegmans Consumer Service office today and talked to Consumer Service Specialist Barb who told me that the magazines had been removed for a sales analysis and the top eight sellers would be returning to the shelves within a couple of weeks. The top eight sellers that will be returning are:Handloader Shotgun News Guns and Ammo Shooting Times Guns and Ammo $7.99 edition Guns and Weapons Guns American Handgunner
Barb indicated to me that if they get enough calls on other titles they will return them to the shelves on a case by case basis.

Barb was concerned that we not see this as a censorship attempt but just a sales issue and that they have been doing the same sales analysis in many categories throughout the store.
I'm convinced that Wegmans intended no censorship and that they will return these mags to the shelves soon.

Democratic NYC Councilman Michael McMahon, candidate for the 13th Congressional District, received a number of endorsements this past week including the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) union, as well as local Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU).

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and the Democratic members of the city’s congressional delegation are also behind McMahan. Brooklyn attorney Stephen Harrison will challenge McMahon in a Democratic primary.

On the Republican side, Frank Powers and Dr. Jamshad Wyne will face-off for the GOP line. The 13th Congressional District includes all of Staten Island and part of Brooklyn.
Clayton Town Councilman Bobby Cantwell has entered the race for the 118th Assembly District as the lone Republican.

The list of Democratic contenders includes Macomb Town Council member Laureen O’Toole and Jefferson County Legislator Addie Jenne Russell. Massena businessman Don Lucas is running as an Independent.

The 118th Assembly District covers St. Lawrence and Jefferson Counties, and has been vacant since Darrel Aubertine was elected to the Senate in a special-election this past winter.

South Carolina Governor Vetoes Tax Holiday for Firearms!

Wednesday, June 18, 2008

Please Contact Your State Representative Today!
On Wednesday June 10, Governor Mark Sanford (R) vetoed S 1143, a bill that among other things would have allowed for a “tax holiday” from the sales for any firearm sold during a predetermined 48 hour window. S 1143 simply grants the same basic rights for firearms that many other commercial products all ready enjoy, while providing a needed commercial boost to legal gun dealers all across South Carolina. This bill will be heard in the House of Representatives sometime next week in an attempt to overturn the Governor’s veto.
Please contact your State Representative and urge him or her to vote for this important piece of legislation. You can find contact information for your State Representative by clicking here.

Safari Club law suit challenged by 8 anti groups

Environmental Groups to Defend Polar Bear Protections From Legal Challenge

WASHINGTON, D.C.— The Center for Biological Diversity, Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), and Greenpeace today filed court papers seeking to intervene in a lawsuit challenging the Endangered Species Act listing for the polar bear.
The lawsuit, filed last month by the Safari Club, a trophy hunting advocacy group, seeks to challenge protections granted to the polar bear under the Endangered Species Act listing decision that was issued on May 15, 2008.
In a separate filing, the International Fund for Animal Welfare, Humane Society of the United States, and Defenders of Wildlife also sought participation in the lawsuit.

In 2005, The Center for Biological Diversity, NRDC, and Greenpeace petitioned to have the polar bear listed under the Endangered Species Act due to factors such as global warming and prevailed in a separate lawsuit in California that forced the Bush administration to issue the listing decision. In that case, which is ongoing, the groups are challenging the administration's attempt to reduce protections for polar bears under the Endangered Species Act through a special exemption that effectively waives consideration of the effect of greenhouse gases on the demise of polar bears.

So the Battle continues and will continue unless sportsmen step up and challenge every thing the antis come out with. Sportsmen need to start making the news on a national level themselves, not after the antis mention us in their news.

Cattle VS Sage Grouse

Yet another comment period born from the loins of the antis. This one is between the ranchers and antis over critical habitat for the sage grouse. See cattle graze on BLM land, the same land grouse live on. Antis claim the cattle disrupt the grouse's habitat.
Imagine that another animal violating the ESA , can they do that? What restriction can we place on a cow, do we take their bells away & segregate them so they can't herd up or would that be animal cruelty?

This was mentioned by the National Trappers Association this past winter as being an important issue because it could eventually affect trapping in the listed areas.
I figured since it was considered important it should be posted where folks can see petition information. Please follow the link for the full report.

OK here is a short version and info for the comment period.

Endangered and Threatened Wildlife and Plants;

90-Day Finding on a Petition to List the Western Sage-Grouse (Centrocercus urophasianus phaios) as Threatened or Endangered AGENCY: Fish and Wildlife Service, Interior.

ACTION: Notice of 90-day petition finding and initiation of status review.

SUMMARY: We, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service), announce a 90-day finding on a petition to list the western sage-grouse (Centrocercus urophasianus phaios) as threatened or endangered under the Endangered Species Act of 1973, as amended (Act).

We find that the petition presents substantial scientific or commercial information indicating that listing the western sage-grouse may be warranted. Therefore, with the publication of this notice, we are initiating a status review to determine if listing the species is warranted. To ensure that the status review is comprehensive, we are soliciting scientific and commercial information regarding this species. We will initiate a determination on critical habitat for this species if and when we initiate a listing action.

Canada Lynx USFW to issue new report in July

The battle rages between trappers and the antis over who is responsible to obtain a ITP= incidental take permit. This ITP will allow trappers to use their tools in normal manners while allowing the state DNR's and Feds to set aside critical habitat.
So far I've yet to discover a ITP or conservation plan listed on the USFW web site.

Anyway, you look at it sportsmen are behind the wheel pretending to drive the actions and spent hundreds of thousands of dollars waiting to get screwed like Maine did.
Maine got such a great deal that in less than 3 months the antis came back and claimed trappers took 6 or 8 lynx, all released unharmed so we were told.
But the antis are not satisfied with the deal they agreed to last fall 2007.

Here is a short version of the new process. Please notice it is dated May 2, 2008

Service to Provide Additional Opportunity to Comment on Proposal to Revise Critical Habitat for the Canada Lynx in July 2008
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service expects to release by July 2008 a draft economic analysis that will estimate the potential costs for conservation actions associated with the proposal to revise the amount of critical habitat designated under the Endangered Species Act (ESA) for the federally threatened Canada lynx. At that time, the Service will also reopen the public comment period on the proposed revised critical habitat rule. The new 30-day comment period will give interested parties an opportunity to comment on the draft economic analysis as well as provide information pertinent to the critical habitat proposal.
Public hearings requested during the initial public comment period will be conducted during the reopened public comment period. The dates, times, and places of those hearings will be announced in the Federal Register and local newspapers at least 15 days before the first hearing.

In total, the Service is proposing to designate approximately 42,753 square miles of habitat in portions of northern Maine, northeastern Minnesota, the Northern Rocky Mountains (northwestern Montana and northeastern Idaho), the Northern Cascades (north-central Washington), and the Greater Yellowstone Area (southwestern Montana and northwestern Wyoming).

BLM to Close Land to Recreational Shooting Outside Helena:
The Bureau of Land Management is seeking public comment on its proposal to close land within the 4,700-acre North Hills Recreation Area located northeast of Helena. BLM proposes to close the entirety of Section 34, Township 12 North, Range 3 West.
This would close several user-created shooting areas that are located adjacent to the main access road to the Recreation Area. The area would not be closed to hunting during the big game season. All BLM lands outside of the closed area would remain open yearlong to recreational shooting.
The deadline for comments is June 15th.

Comments should be submitted to BLM Butte Field Office, 106 North Parkmont, Butte, MT 59701, or electronically to pzurcher@blm.gov. For additional information you may call 406-533-7638. It is critical that gun owners and sportsmen take an active role in this process!

We the People

So I'll start by telling my fellow Americans that "you are the government". Yea I know it's hard to fathom but I recall it was written something like this. "We the people, for the people by the people".
So do me and the rest of America a favor and stop you friggen whining about when the government is going to do something for us. You keep feeding that monster and it can only grow till it consumes most of what we earn and then she'll return nothing but crap.

You'll notice right off I'm no writer and don't worry about my punctuation either cause I sure don't.

I found this tid bit Friday while snooping in the governments vast public files . Thought some of you may want to make comment. You'll notice right off the smart ass comment. It is directed at a group of individuals that promised to watch out for these things and let us know.
So far they have missed or showed up late to the prom on almost every announcement that directly affects their operations.
