Trapdoor Springfield 1888 45-70 Rod Bayonet Antique Original 1892
Serial # 548559
This is Model 1888 Trapdoor Springfield in 45-70 Govt.  It has the rod bayonet which indicates that it is a Model 1888.  It is stamped Model 1884.
This rifle is in superb condition inside and out.

It has an inspector stamp on the stock that that is SWP 1892.  NO THAT'S NOT A CRACK! The serial number indicates that it was made in the fall of 1892, less than a year before Trapdoor manufacture ended.
The stock and bluing have only minor handling marks.  Stock cartouches are crisp and clear.
“P” behind trigger guard  Stock numbered 10/ 11
The Krag-Jorgensen Rifle was adopted in 1892.  This may be one of the rifles placed in storage and never issued.   This rifle is in excellent shape considering it is 130 years old.
