These firearms need torn down and all the dried oil/preservatives removed. They are a little sticky inside.  bpb

I unboxed the rifle took pictures gave it a wipe with RIG rag and boxed it back up with original paper and extra bubble wrap.

Unfired 26” octagonal barrel with full magazine-lever has not been worked since the collector purchased it. Side frame has engraving Hang tag & Saddle ring still attached to the lever.

Outstanding stock burl walnut

It is marked Classic on the barrel

This is a Spanish FR-8 Mauser that was made from a 1949 dated, Mauser System 98 bolt action receiver.

 

The Spanish Military introduced the FR-8 in the 1950’s at the same time as they were introducing the CETME rifle. They didn’t have the funds to equip everyone with a CETME. As a lower cost alternative, they converted existing Mauser into this carbine and the advantage of having ammunition compatibility. These rifles were intended to be used by second line troops, police and Guardia Civil units saving the CETME for front line troops.

The FR-8 was fitted with a new barrel, rotary sights out to 400 meters, flash hider/grenade launcher and a modified stock. The tube under the barrel holds a cleaning kit and serves as a bayonet mount. The FR-8 served there Spanish military well into the 1970’s.

This rifle is in very good condition with a very good bore. The bolt and receiver numbers match and the cleaning kit is present. This is a handy and accurate carbine that will be a fine addition to any collection.

This rifle is Spanish Mauser Model 1893 Rifle that was produced in Oviedo, Spain in 1908. It is in the original 7mm caliber. This rifle was produced in time to see service in Spain’s overseas colonies and the Spanish Civil War. There is no import stamp on this rifle.

It is know that, after the Civil War, the Spanish Army was consolidating all its small arms into 8mm Mauser.

The Republicans purchased any rifles they could get supply their soldiers with arms during the Spanish Civil War sold all their rifles that were in another caliber. They had at least 18 different types of rifles and that’s not counting the rifles the Nationalists added to the mix.
During the 1950’s, the Spanish Government sold off the odd calibers. This was before import stamps were required on rifles imported into the US.

Many of the small ring Mauser were sporterized in some manner. This rifle is in its original condition. The bolt does not match, bore is dark but it is still a fine shooter and the 7mm Mauser cartridge is an excellent cartridge.
